About Canterbury Kent
Canterbury is an English city situated at the heart of the City of Canterbury, a district of Kent, in South East England, sitting on the River Stour. It was originally a Brythonic settlement and it was renamed Durovernum Cantiacorum, by the Roman conquerors, in the first century, AD. Its history is kept alive by the many historical structures, still present, today, such as a city wall founded in Roman times and rebuilt in the 14th century, the ruins of St Augustine's Abbey and the Norman castle, and perhaps the oldest school in England, The King's School.
Due to its strong, historical routes still present, which offer visitors a glimpse into the city's past times, along with the modern touches and its countryside-like charm, with numerous green spaces, Caterbury has become one of UK's most popular and visited places. Among its most significant and most visited landmarks, there is Canterbury Cathedral, the Mother Church of the Anglican Communion and seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, which dates since 597 AD, when it was founded by Augustine, and The Old Synagogue at Canterbury, now the King's School Music Room, one of only two Egyptian Revival synagogues still standing.
